After the Pirates designated Hoy Park for assignment, they traded him to the Red Sox for Inmer Lobo, a left-handed pitcher in the Dominican Summer League.
Lobo, 20, posted an 0.82 ERA with 22 strikeouts in 22 innings pitched with the DSL Red Sox team in 2022. Fast forward to 2024, Lobo debuted in the State, pitching for the FCL Pirates and Bradenton Marauders. He pitched well in both, with an ERA under two at each stop. With Bradenton, Lobo went 2-0 with a save while striking out 31 batters in 32.2 innings pitched and recorded a 1.65 ERA.
Although his fastball averaged just 87 mph, he still managed to get hitters to chase it out of the zone over 30% of the time. His change-up was his best pitch, as he could throw it for strikes and generate a 38.1% whiff rate.
Lefties inherently have an easier path to success in the lower levels, so it's no surprise Lobo has had the success he has had. The secondary offerings are good enough for him to have some long-term depth success. A southpaw with a good changeup can sometimes outplay their expectations, which is what you would be hoping for from Lobo.
