A terrific moment Saturday as Dick Vitale received a rousing standing ovation as he called his first basketball game in over two years because of cancer treatments, returning as ESPN's college basketball broadcast analyst for Clemson's 77-71 upset of No. 2 Duke at Littlejohn Colisuem.
Heartwarming: After a two-year battle with cancer, the legendary 85-year-old Dick Vitale receives a standing ovation in his return to the broadcast booth.
Vitale, 85, didn't take long to get back into form. After play-by-play announcer Cory Alexander gave a heartfelt on-air tribute by telling his partner, "It matters to these young men that you are sitting here today. They grew up watching you call this game and are looking forward to their first chance to be able to play in front of you.," Vitale quipped, "I want you to call Mr. [James] Pitaro of ESPN and get me a new deal."
So great to have Dickie V back, even better that he's beaten cancer again. Basketball analysis must keep one young. Hubie Brown is calling his last NBA game Sunday when the Bucks host the 76ers, He's 91.
