Many NBA fans have taken over every corner of the internet floating their conspiracy theories after the Mavericks won the draft lottery, despite having just a 1.8-percent chance of getting the top pick.
The primary conspiracy theory is this: There was no reason for the Mavericks to trade Luka Doncic to the Lakers, but they believe the league had a wink-and-nod agreement with the franchise, guaranteeing them the No.1 pick in the draft — expected to be Duke's Cooper Flagg — if they traded Doncic to the Lakers, the league's beloved franchise, who were struggling to even make the playoffs at the time of the deal. Many believe that what LeBron James wants, he gets, and that he pulls the levers when it comes to the Lakers.
Adding to the suspicions is the fact the lottery drawing is done completely behind closed doors, and that Mavericks GM Nico Harrison was in attendance, while other teams with remote chances had players or lesser front-office people.
My cousins who follow the league closely both smell something fishy. The Doncic trade made zero sense, even to me, a casual observer. Now this. As a league, there is deference to LeBron, no doubt. The officiating is not objective, often appearing corrupt. I don't know if the Mavs pulled off a miracle, but i would not be surprised these theorists aren't crazy at all.
